As president pulled Kildare out of Cosgrove lock on "Cross straps" one of the crew was kneeling on the counter of President trying to pull Kildare closer so he could rearrange the straps. I think it was more luck than skill that he wasn't ether pulled off the stern under the butty, or trapped his hands between the strap and the butty stem post. No command was given to the driver to ease off to allow the butty to catch up to do this, in fact he was accelerating putting even more tension on the straps and strain on Kildare's fore stud..
